To create these house signs we use a gorgeous combination of off white sandstone mounted onto slate in a soft dark grey, subtle purple or classic black. Both materials for your plaque are of the highest quality and we finish the stone with a waterproofing sealant for extra resistance. The slate is a robust material requiring no protection.
A pleasing layout is a priority when designing these house plaques. Once this is achieved and we are happy with the design we send it by e mail for your approval.
The house name can be arranged in a circle for a small additional cost. We can also add the house number in the centre or you can choose from our selection of motifs to decorate the centre of the plaque or to embellish the text.
Not every style of lettering is suitable for every house name when laid out in a circle so we will suggest alternatives if this is the case. Upper case lettering is the most successful for house plaques with circular lettering but lower case can be fun too. Just check that your words don’t have too many ascenders and descenders (d, t, g, p etc), and bear in mind that hand written styles like inkburrow and zapfino will form an irregular circle on your square plaque. There is a choice of 6 type-faces for your house name plaque. Choose elegant ‘zapfino’, classic ‘handle old style’ or, the latest addition to our range, contemporary ‘matrix script’.
To stencil the lettering onto the stone of your house name we use a specially adapted primer plus 2 coats of long life masonry paint in dark grey.
We bond the slate and stone of your house plaque together with a tough exterior adhesive and we glue in the invisible fixings. These are are long enough to accommodate uneven surfaces such as a stone wall.
Installation of a Number Studio stone & slate house plaque is simple. All you need is a drill with 9 mm masonry bit, a measure or spirit level to check that the plaque is horizontal and some exterior masonry adhesive. Full instructions are supplied with every house sign.
